The Taiko on the left is a more common size but also makes it obvious that the Taiko is not an inexpensive instrument. On the right is the hand made Steelpan Drum of the Jamaica's. | ![]() |
| While creating my version of Dueling Banjos it occurred to me that it might be fun to create a version using an instrument that no one has ever heard used to play this tune. There are several drums considered melodic drums. The Japanese Taiko Drum and the Jamaican Steelpan Drum are two of them. Jammin' With Taiko is the result. I imagined a Japanese Naval vessel docked in Jamaica. The Japanese ancestral Taiko Drums are setup on the deck of the ship for the men to practice and get some sunshine. On the dock is a ragged old Jamaican with his Steelpan Drum made from the top of an old 55 gallon oil drum and he begins to mimick them as they practice. Click on one of the links below then fix this image in your mind, close your eyes and listen to the music of two ethnic drums as it paints a short story in your mind. If your speakers are up to it, I think you will be smiling when Jammin' With Taiko has finished playing. Streaming transfers of Windows MultiMedia Audio or MP3 |
