| The Music you have been enjoying (hopefully) listening to has been recorded using three different software wave table synthesizers with up to 40 megs of wave table data files to reproduce the necessary instrument sounds. After creation of the WAV file this is then manipulated within a WAV editor to normalize the volume of each file, equalize, and other modifications to the original recording. MP3 files are generated using the newest version of LAME with it's 'pyscho accoustics'. WMA are created using Microsoft's version 8 utility and RealAudio files are created using RealAudio Producer Gold. The necessity to reduce the bps from 320kbps of normal CD quaility audio down to 32-40kbps to allow streaming has had an affect on the sound but not as drastic as other streaming music audio files I have heard on the Internet. For W98 and above users who want optimum sound quality of the RealAudio formatted music files I recommend getting either the free JetAudio basic player or the free Real Alternative player. The new RealOne player from RealAudio is a constant source of advertisements and annoying 'nag screens' and the install of RealOne will try to disable your other players. JetAudio or Real Alternative are two of the few players that will stream RealAudio files for you and not do the damage to your registery settings that the RealOne player will do. Jet Audio offers rich sound. Unlike some media players that seem anemic when it comes to customizing the sound with graphics equalizers, Jet Audio’s built-in settings allow for various music styles to sound as they should and allow you to instantly adjust the levels for a listening experience customized for the music. If the look of the program does not suit you you can select skins, offering another layer of customization. Jet Audio also includes a timer. You can set the player to come on and off at select times, thus turning it into an alarm clock. There is also cross fading, access to the CDDB database for recording information, and naturally you can burn directly from Jet Audio. The following file formats are supported for CD ripping: WAV, MP3, mp3PRO, WMA, RealMedia, OGG, APE When you consider the sound quality of Jet Audio, and its powerful abilities, this program is less an option and more a requirement when it comes to enjoying music files on the PC. While other programs may offer specific rich features, it seems each has a speciality in some form or fashion, Jet Audio should not be overlooked. Once you hear sound files played via this software, you will want to have this program loaded for easy access. This is one very well crafted digital music player and burner.
