I decided to teach the robot how to rework parts from other newer models of robots so that it could repair itself when parts were needed. Seemed the only logical thing to do? Then I made the fatal mistake. I enabled this self-repair function as fully automatic.
In my rush to keep my old robot functional I had overlooked one small addition to it's program. I forgot to specify that it could only use parts from nonfunctioning robots. My robot grabbed any robot nearby for parts and removed what it needed. My mechanical half killed all the others in it's quest for replacement parts.
I cannot stop it, it is on full automatic. Even as I am remembering all of this the robot is busy repairing his right leg with parts it has reworked from the `junk pile' of now dead half human robots. That is what I see in every direction. Piles of what were once half human robots that my robot moves through from pile to pile taking what it needs then continuing onward.
There are no other humans alive now. I am the last one, the last half of a human. The horrible realization is that I will never die. The robot will never stop and as long as the robot lives I live. Alone, watching those lights moving up and down and listening to the KALUMP KALUMP of my huge robotic feet as I walk through eternity - alone.
This is where the dream ends each time ...
